International Co-operation

The Academy is a member of ALLEA All European Academies as well as the Union Académique Internationale (UAI). In the latter case this involves actual undertakings, participation in numerous publication projects based on co-operation between learned societies in a number of countries.

The Academy is also a member of the European Science Foundation (ESF), an organization established in Strasbourg to promote scholarly co-operation between European countries. Within the framework of ESF the Academy is actively involved in several projects.

The Academy has bilateral agreements with Australia, Austria, China and Great Britain as well as with most eastern European countries. These agreements support individual research visits for periods of weeks agreed on between the sending and receiving academies. There are also reciprocal symposia and publishing projects within the co-operation programme.

Co-operation has developed between the Nordic countries in the form of yearly meetings between their learned societies. There is also a co-operation programme between the Nordic and Baltic academies. Questions of mutual interest are discussed, such as common standpoints in the field of international co-operation.
